Call open for IDEAL the IMDEA Nanociencia postdoctoral fellowships programme
01.07.2021
- The first call of the IDEAL COFUND project is open until 30th September 2021.
- The IDEAL programme aims to attract 12 talented postdoctoral fellows to carry out research of excellence in any of the research areas developed at the Institute.
- The IDEAL project is a COFUND Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action.
Madrid, 1st of July, 2021. The IDEAL programme (IMDEA-Nanociencia Postdoctoral Programme in Nanoscience) for attracting talent at IMDEA Nanociencia opens the period to apply for one of the 6 postdoctoral fellowships that will be awarded in this first call.
IDEAL is a new fellowship programme promoted by Fundación IMDEA Nanociencia that over 5 years aims to attract 12 talented postdoctoral researchers to undertake excellent research in any of the areas of research carried out at the institute: (i) Organic nanosystems for light harvesting and energy conversion, (ii) Fundamental properties of 2D materials, (iii) Nanomedicine against cancer and infection; (iv) Nanomagnetism and critical raw materials and (v) Solid state quantum devices for information technologies and (iv) the Technology Transfer Platform.
A world-class research experience
The key objective of the programme is to offer these young researchers a well-balanced research independence as well as mentoring from experienced researchers giving them access to an excellent infrastructure of the highest level for the pursuit of projects in nanoscience and nanotechnology. IMDEA Nanociencia will provide a full research training and career development programme, with a series of training activities and opportunities. IDEAL aims to provide a dynamic research community and a lively international atmosphere focused on interdisciplinary research.
The chosen fellows will carry out 30 month projects and they will be able to choose a partner organization to develop a secondment (between 2 and 6 months). The intersectoral, international partner organizations will offer the fellows a chance to build their curriculum, gaining experience outside of an academic environment if they choose to do so.
The requisites for postdoctoral candidates to join this programme are to have gained a PhD degree in the previous four years -at the date of deadline- and to not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the last 3 years before the call deadline.
With the COFUND MSCA seal
IMDEA Nanociencia funds this initiative through the COFUND Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) grant. Specifically, IMDEA has received €1.1 million, out of the €100 million awarded in this programme. IMDEA Nanociencia is one of the 11 Spanish entities and the only one in Madrid to receive this grant in the 2020 call.
COFUND (Co-funding of Regional, National and International Programmes) is under the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions from European Union’s Horizon 2020 Framework. It is a co-financing mechanism that aims to stimulate regional, national or international programmes to promote excellence in the research training of personnel, their mobility and the development of their professional careers.
Research in Madrid
The IMDEA Nanociencia Institute, created in 2006 by initiative of the regional Government of Comunidad de Madrid, is an interdisciplinary research centre dedicated to the exploration of basic nanoscience and the development of applications of nanotechnology in connection with innovative industries. IMDEA Nanociencia was awarded the Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence by the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness in 2017. This is the highest national recognition of scientific excellence. The Institute is located and is part of the UAM-CSIC Cantoblanco Campus of International Excellence, a highly competitive world-class research environment.
