Dr. Enrique Cánovas at IMDEA Nanociencia.

IMDEA Nanociencia's researcher Dr. Enrique Cánovas has been appointed Leader of a Max Planck Partner Group in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (Mainz, Germany).

A new Max Planck Partner Group led by Dr. Enrique Cánovas has been established at IMDEA Nanociencia. The group’s research is devoted to the development and characterization of "Functional two dimensional metal organic frameworks"; specifically the study of correlations between chemical composition, electronic structure, conductivity and charge carrier mobility in bi-dimensional metal organic framework hexagonal structures. The work will be done in close cooperation with Prof. Mischa Bonn´s Department of Molecular Spectroscopy at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (MPIP, Mainz, Germany).

Max Planck Partner Groups can be set up with an institute abroad with the proviso that, following a research residency at a Max Planck Institute, top junior scientists returning to a leading and appropriately-equipped laboratory in their home country and carrying out further research on a subject that is also in the interests of their previous host Max Planck institute. The work of the Partner Groups is evaluated after three years and provided the evaluation is positive, can be extended up to five years.

Enrique Cánovas graduated in Applied Physics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and holds a PhD in Physics at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. After a 2 years postdoc at FOM Institute AMOLF (The Netherlands), in 2012 he was appointed group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research. Since April 2018, he is Research Professor (tenure track) at IMDEA Nanociencia in Madrid (Spain). His research interests cover all aspects of nanotechnology, solar energy conversion and charge carrier dynamics.
