ENMA is a project leaded by the Division of Permanent Magnets and Applications at IMDEA-Nanociencia that aims at developing rare earth-free permanent magnets (PMs) as alternative to controversial and costly NdDyFeB magnets. MnAl is a promising choice due to the abundance of the constituent elements and potential magnetic properties. However, practical implementation of these magnets requires a proper understanding and optimization of the magnetic properties with morphology and microstructure. Furthermore, ENMA will develop advanced processing routes based on 3D printing technology. Scientific and technological impacts of the project are manifested by participation of a long time experienced PMs-enterprise, IMA S.L., in addition to a prominent research group in the field of new PMs: Chemical Engineering Department at Northeastern University in Boston.
